Tutorial - All That Glitters
All That Glitters Tutorial (Using Noise)by Shawntelle
Step 1: Create your text
1. Open a new document in Photoshop to hold your text.
2. Add your text using the [T] tool.
Note: This effect works best on fonts that are thick.
Step 2: Rasterize Layer
1. Before you can do fun things to the layer you need to rasterize the layer.
2. Layer | Rasterize > Type
3. Now we are going to color the inside of each letter. Use the Magic Wand to select the inside of each letter. Hold down the shift key as you select each.
4. Once the selection is done. Take the bucket and fill in with whatever color you want.
Step 3: Create Multiple Layers
Note: Your letters are still selected. Do not deselect. We want the noise to be applied to the selection and not the whole sandwich. ;)
1. Go to the Layers, Right Click and Select Duplicate Layer. (Or use the Layer Menu)
2. Do it again so that you have three layers.
Step 4: Adding Noise
1. With the first layer selected go to Filter | Noise > Add Noise
2. The Add Noise window will pop up. Each of our layers will have a filter value. Layer 1: Amount 15%
3. Repeat step 1-2 for Layer 2 and Layer 3 copies of your text. Layer 2: Amount 20% Layer 3: Amount 25%
Note: You will not immediately see the effect since the layers are on top of each other. Make sure Monochromatic is selected. Now you are ready to animate!!!
Animation Process:
1. File | Jump to > Adobe ImageReady
2. Go to the Layers Window. Turn off visibility for layer 2 and layer 3. (Click the eye)
3. Create a new duplicate animation frame. (not layer)
4. Go to the Layers Window. Turn off visibility for layer 1 and layer 3.
5. Create a new duplicate frame.
6. Go to the Layers Window. Turn off visibility for layer 1 and layer 2.
Note: You can stop at this point and save the file as a GIF. I usually add an additional layer with only layer 2 since to add a smooth transition back to the layer with 15% noise.
